Misbah-ul-Haq, the former cricketer was a useful captain for his national team during his international career and remained the skipper of Pakistan for a long time. He was mostly known for his cool thinking capability as skipper on the field which yielded a few brilliant results for Pakistan under his captaincy.

As per PCB, it is Misbah who can hold the responsibility of the coach and selector of their nation. There were already some voices coming out of the former cricketers in Pakistan who were against this decision, but now former Australian cricketer turned commentator has come down with an opinion on the social media over Misbah.

45-year-old Pakistan cricketer took his retirement from all forms of cricket after West Indies tour in 2017, and now after the unsuccessful stint of the green-flag nation in 50 over mega-event Misbah has been handed over the dual role for the team.

The newly appointed coach started his tenure with a bang after Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka in the ODI series by 2-0 but just after that, his team lost their first-ever T20I series against the same nation in which they’re on the verge getting a clean sweep. After a dip in the form of his side, the former cricketer has been facing a lot of criticism from his fans and former cricketers.

Former Aussie cricketer opines over Misbah-ul-Haq’s dual role

Now, Australian cricketer Dean Jones, who shares good relation with the coach of Pakistan feels that it is very difficult to handle the dual roles and it is no solution to improve the situation of cricket in their nation, and posted a message on Twitter stating that, “In my opinion in cricket, you cannot have both roles as a head coach and a selector. Imagine if you were a player with some technical or mental problems… would you be honest with your coach as you are more likely to be sacked!”

However, this decision of PCB  has been opposed because it will make it difficult for the grassroots cricketers to reach the national team. If a coach is on a national tour then how is it possible for him to have look on the broader area of his country which is preparing new cricketers to get their first call up.

Later, Jones went onto clarify in his another tweet that he shares a good relation with Misbah and wants him to do genuinely well with his new responsibilities but it will be tough for the former cricketer to cope up in dual roles and wrote. “Re my comments today. Misbah is a dear mate of mine. I genuinely want him to do well. With 3 formats of the game and a new First Class system… it’s hard to do all the jobs properly and well. I want Misbah to do well. He needs support and patience.”

Misbah-ul-Haq has played 75 Tests, 162 ODIs, and 39 T20Is in which he had managed to get more than 10,000 international runs. Under his captaincy, Pakistan became the no. 1 team in Test Cricket for the first time since 1988.
