Former Pakistani batsman Younis Khan is definitely very pleased with the way Pakistan team lifted the recently concluded Champions Trophy. Led firmly by skipper Sarfraz Ahmed, team Pakistan totally outplayed the favorites team India to win the coveted title. Very few had given them a sniff to win the title when they had entered the tournament as the least ranked side.

Their defeat in the very first game against India had only strengthened the claims of Pakistan making up the numbers in the event. However, their resurgence story has been worth an applause. As expected, the people back in Pakistan are very happy. Cash prizes and awards have been announced for the new found heroes of the country. Now, a famous builder, Riaz Malik has announced plots for Fakhar Zaman and cash prizes for the players of the team.

Former skipper Younis Khan has urged the announcers to live up to their word when the announce such prizes. He recalled that back in the year 2009 when the Pakistani team had won the World T20, similar awards and prizes were announced for the winning players. However, some of the prizes are yet to be given to the players. Younis Khan was a member of that team.

“When you make promises kindly fulfil them. Just don’t do this to get publicity. It is good players are being rewarded. But I would like to remind Mr Riaz Malik that similar awards were also announced when we won the 2009 World T20 in England. Some of those promises have still not been fulfilled,” said Younis Khan as per the quotes in the New Indian Express.

Players deserve the awards

He further noted that the players of the team thoroughly deserve the prizes that have been announced. It is indeed a big achievement to have won a world title and that too against the top countries. He has urged the officials to ensure the prizes get delivered.

“I would request Mr Riaz Malik and Bahria Town (projects) to kindly ensure the awards they promise are given to the players. These players deserve these rewards and they should get them once announced,” he conceded.
