Younis Khan wants Pakistani youngsters to take cue from Virat Kohli

Kohli took the baton of the billion hopes of the Indian fans to his name after the retirement of Sachin Tendulkar.

Veteran Pakistani batsman Younis Khan recently entered the elite club of batsmen to have reached the landmark of 10000 runs in cricket. Younis became the 13th batsman to have reached the landmark and also the oldest to be there. Also, he was the sixth-fastest to reach the milestone in terms of the number of innings played. He became the first player from Pakistan to join the elite list of cricketers.

Needless to say, Younis Khan has been a legend of the game. He is currently with the national side in the Caribbean Islands. The three-match Test series against the West Indies will be his last assignment in the Pakistani whites. He has been a great servant for the game of cricket in Pakistan. The youngsters have been looking up to him for inspiration and is a role model in his native land.

It will not be wrong to say that he is to Pakistan cricket what Sachin Tendulkar was to the Indian cricket. When Sachin had retired from the game of cricket, many believed that the void will never be filled. Now, with Younis retiring, the same talks are bound to come back again. The absence of Younis Khan will certainly be missed in the middle order.

As per the tweet by a renowned Pakistani journalist, Younis Khan wants youngsters of Pakistan to take cue from Indian skipper Virat Kohli. Kohli never let the absence of Sachin Tendulkar feel. He took the baton of the billion hopes of the Indian fans to his name after the retirement of the maestro. Younis wants the Pakistan players to do the same and step up to the occasion after the big names like Misbah Ul Haq and he retires.

The tweet read, “Younis Khan suggests Pakistan youngsters to look at Kohli who took up the baton from Tendulkar and is taking forward India’s batting legacy.”

Younis Khan also shared some words of praises for the current Indian skipper Kohli. He noted that after Sachin’s retirement, Kohli came to the fore with a clear goal and aim. He expects Kohli to surpass Sachin in the years to come.

“To score 10,000 runs, you have to make up your mind first. If you take an example of Virat Kohli after Sachin Tendulkar’s retirement (in 2013), he went on with an aim and a goal. So I am sure in the coming years, he will surpass Sachin,” quoted Younis as per the quotes in Sportskeeda.

Talking about Pakistan cricket, he revealed that he has been trying everything to pass on every bit of knowledge he has to the youngsters. He expects the players to take cues from the stars of the game and emerge out to be better players in the days to come.

“I have tried my best to tell them everything – what to do, how to practice, what to do after at the match, what to do after scoring a hundred and what to do after scoring zero. So I am sure if I am not around, they will follow it to become successful,” conceded the Pakistani batsman.
