Post his retirement from international cricket, all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has been quite vocal about his thoughts. Of late, he has shared several insights about his way of thinking. Recently, he even spoke about the current Indian skipper Virat Kohli being ‘overloaded’ with a lot of work. Virat Kohli is the best batsman for Team India at the moment without a doubt.
Moreover, he even leads the side across all the three formats of the game. Thus, to handle this excessive workload, Yuvraj Singh opined that the management should try out split captaincy. The 38-year-old believes that someone else should take up the responsibility of leading the team in the shortest format of the game. For the same, he believes that Rohit Sharma will be a wonderful option.
Yuvraj Singh opined that it was perfect to have one captain when there were only two formats
Yuvraj Singh noted that there used to be just two formats of the game a few years back. Thus, he opined that it was perfect to have only one captain back then. However, he doesn’t feel the same for the current scenario. He said that the management should try someone else if Virat is feeling overloaded. Furthermore, he mentioned that Rohit Sharma has been a very successful captain.
“Earlier there used to be just two formats —ODI and Tests, so it was perfect to have one captain. Now there are three formats and if Virat is feeling overloaded, maybe they should try somebody else for the T20 format. Rohit has been a very successful captain,” Yuvraj said in an interview to Aaj Tak.
At the same time, though, he informed that it is up to the management to decide how much workload the current skipper can take. He said that it is a complete team management’s call on how to manage Virat’s workload.
“I don’t really know. They (team management) have to decide how much workload Virat can take. Do they need to try somebody else for T20? It completely depends on how they want to go for the future. Virat has been the best batsman. How to manage his workload? It is completely team management’s call.”
