Yuvraj Singh donates Rs 5 lakh to crowd-funding project for Indian Kabaddi

World Cup winning Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh donated Rs.5-lakh to a crowd-funding project for Indian Kabaddi. The money raised will be presented to the Indian Kabaddi players, as a mark of respect and recognition, and they in turn, will use the funds for the betterment of new talents and betterment of Kabaddi, a press release stated.

Yuvraj, who was part of World Cup winning Indian cricket team and also was the Man of the tournament, knew the importance of winning the World Cup and thus made his cause clear saying, “It’s the right time to do our bit for Kabaddi, more so now that we have won the Kabaddi World Cup. Being a sportsperson who has been a part of the World Cup winning team, I would like to make this contribution for the development of Kabaddi and encourage more players to take it up with passion and pride”.

“Kabaddi has begun gaining limelight in the world of sports and it is bound to flourish because it is a true sport that demands excellent athletic abilities ,” added Indian Kabaddi captain Anup Kumar.

Yuvraj has also got other charitable involvements. Just after the World Cup, the World Cup hero was diagnosed with lung cancer and was under treatment for more than a year, before he was released and confirmed to be out of danger. After that, he started a foundation called YouWeCan with his mother, through which he plans to support 10,000 underprivileged children.

In 2015, Yuvraj put forward his intention to invest Rs.40-50 crores in the venture, supporting online startups to expand the YouWeCan venture’s outreach and has already made initial investments in Moovo, Vyomo, Healthians, EduKart, JetSetGo and most recently Cartisan. Microsoft had launched the YouWeCan app initially for Windows Phone and when a user purchases the app, a portion of the price of Rs 565 (US$8.40) is donated to the venture.
