Dinesh Karthik, the Indian wicketkeeper who debuted for the Indian team at the age of 19 years made his last international appearance in the semi-finals of the World Cup 2019 against NewZealand, since then he has been out the squad due to his dipping form and poor show with the bat in the World Cup. He recently shared his Indian team experience on a talk show “Breakfast with Champions” and recalled an incident where he crashed into Sourav Ganguly during an intense game against Pakistan during Champions Trophy.

The incident happened back in 2004. It was September 19, 2004, when India met with Pakistan at Birmingham in the Group C encounter. It was the first meeting of India and Pakistan in Champions Trophy in a must-win game to advance into the semi-finals.

During that encounter after a fall of a wicket, Karthik who was a substitute in that match ran towards the players who were standing in a huddle. He was carrying a lot of bottles and couldn’t stop himself at the right time and bumped straight into Ganguly, “I was a substitute in that game and I had to carry drinks to the players. I was running towards the players to give them drinks and accidentally, I slipped and fell on Dada. He got frustrated and yelled, “Where do you get these players from, who is he?” Karthik said in the talk show.

Yuvraj Singh revealed the actual words

Now the former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh, who was part of the game back in 2004, after watching Karthik’s video at the talk show, Yuvraj revealed on Twitter about what exactly Dada said during that incident. Replying on the video on Twitter, Yuvraj wrote, “dada exact words! Kaun hai re ye pagal ! kahan se pakad ke Latien hai in the middle of India vs Pak tense game!  @DineshKarthik your hilarious @ImRo45.”

India lost that match to Pakistan by 7 wickets due to Mohammad Yousuf’s unbeaten 81 runs and Shahid Afridi’s late quick-fire knock of 25 runs off 12 balls. Irfan Pathan was the pick of the bowlers in the Indian team who registered bowling figures of  9-1-34-3 which went into vein against the arch-rivals. Yuvraj Singh and Sourav Ganguly scored ducks in that match.
