Yuvraj Singh has had to battle a lot of demons to reach the stature that he commands today. One of the most prolific all-rounders India has ever had, Singh currently plays for the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) side in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Recently, the star player revealed the vexing difficulties of ‘juggling between different roles’ that he has to undergo as a professional cricketer.
Singh was an integral part of the World Cup winning Indian side in 2011 and was diagnosed with cancer soon after. After a tumultuous journey, the 36-year-old made a comeback into the national side in 2017 and in spite of having a gruelling schedule throughout the year, he has ‘no complaints’. On the personal front, Singh got married to model-actor, Hazel Keech in 2016.
Yuvraj Singh blessed to have the love of fans
As reported by news agency IANS, Yuvraj recently opened up on how he manages to balance the personal and professional facets of his life.
“It takes a dedicated team to ensure I am on track with all my responsibilities. Juggling between different roles can be difficult at times, but I am very aware of how lucky I am to have all of this. I look forward to being motivated while I play, and I take each day as an opportunity to do more, give more. I feel blessed to have the love and best wishes of fans and supporters,” he said.
When quizzed about the possible drawback of losing home advantage through the IPL as an umpteen number of foreign players participating in the cricketing gala, Singh commented, “IPL was conceived as a format that allowed the best of cricketing talent to compete with each other and entertain cricket fans. So over the last 11 seasons definitely there are more non-Indian players who now understand subcontinental pitches or our bowling and can adapt better when we are playing each other’s national sides. But the reverse is also true.”
Yuvi also shed light on the huge inspiration that the Indian players have been able to draw from the foreign participants by utilising the opportunity to observe and learn from them. “We have a different comfort level and, all in all, a much better equation as players of the game. Obviously when we don the national colours, we are all playing for our country and that is the passion that drives us to give it our best,” he stated.
