Banters among teammates, especially in the sport of cricket are really common. And, it was no different in the case of India’s two ace spinners, Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal. It all started with Ashwin tweeting about chess, a sport Chahal has excelled in his early days.
For the uninitiated, Chahal before stepping onto the cricket ground has proven his mettle on the chess-board. The 29-year-old leg spinner was an international level player of chess and had represented India at the youth level. But, destiny had in store for him, a successful career in the most loved sport of our country, cricket. He is known in his circles, a man who can think critically in the toughest of situations. And, often this ability of his has been credited to his history of being associated with chess for such a long time.
Ashwin had posted a picture on Twitter with a caption, ‘Playing chess against the computer is just sooooo easy, it’s putting me to sleep. Can someone please help me make this more challenging?’ And, to this Chahal replied in his usual way, challenging Ashwin for a game of chess against him.

The conversation progressed into Ashwin accepting the challenge. Both of them have bowled India out of tough situation on the cricket field, getting the team past many breakers. But, Yuzvendra Chahal definitely holds the upper hand in this contest.
How about a game with me Ash bhai 😜@ashwinravi99

Ravichandran Ashwin delivered impressive performances in the domestic circuit
Ravichandran Ashwin is currently sweating it out in the domestic circuit. He has been an active part of the ongoing Ranji Trophy and has been making sure to get enough match practice before his next assignment. Ashwin is all set to play in the forthcoming New Zealand tour in early 2020.
On the other hand, Chahal in spite of being in the team for the T20I series against West Indies did not get a chance to be in the playing XI. Virat Kohli, the Indian captain chose to go with the combo of Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja in the spin department, leaving Chahal out on the bench. Chahal is next expected to feature in the forthcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka which kicks off on the 5th of January, 2020.
Now with Ashwin accepting the challenge and the duo having enough time on their hands for a game of chess, it will be interesting to see who gets the better of whom when they battle it out the checkered board.
