10 Interesting Cameron White facts that you should know: Fearless eyes, clever mind, immense cricketing skills and a powerful batting at the death overs – that’s how one can describe the persona of Cameron White on a cricket field. The Aussie all-rounder played some fantastic knocks for Australia at the 50-over format over the last one decade.

Interestingly, he was selected for his bowling skills in the session 2005-2006. But he surprised everyone with his explosive batting down the order. Slowly, it became apparent that Cameron White was more as a pure batsman and part-time leg-spinner than a genuine bowler. In the next few years, he cemented his place in the Aussie ODI squad for his power hitting abilities. However, he didn’t get as many opportunities as he truly deserved.

Statistically speaking, White scored 2037 runs with 2 tons and 11 fifties at a good average of around 35 in 88 ODIs that he played for Australia. Unfortunately, he played just 4 Tests and scored only 146 runs at an average of around 29.

1. Golden duck on debut: In his very first ODI match for Australia against New Zealand in 2005-2006 sessions, he got out for a duck off the very first ball from Chris Martin that he faced. This marked an extremely ignominious start of a very promising cricketer.

2. Naughty nickname: Cameron White is often referred to as bear by his colleagues. He got this naughty nickname because of his tall height and 90-KG weight.

3. One of the richest Aussie cricketers: Though, Cameron has been on and off the field for the last few years, but that didn’t affect his earning potential. In 2014, he was one amongst the top 8 Aussie cricketers as per the report of Business Review Weekly (BRW).

4. Awards and recognitions: In his short career of just 88 One-dayers, the right-handed batsman received 3 Man-of-the-match awards (MOM) and 1 Man-of-the-series (MOS) trophy as well.

5. Swashbuckling IPL debut: Cameron White entered into the IPL in style. In 2008, Royal Challengers Bangalore bought him for $500,000 to strengthen their middle order. His bid was more than what his peers; Ricky Ponting, Mathew Hayden, Hussey and Shane Warne received from bid at the Indian Premiere League’s inaugural edition.

6. Terrific T20 career: His form might be deceptive, but not when you compare his Twenty-twenty statistics. He is one of best T20 specialist batsmen who gave consistent performance in this format over the last few years without any break. White played 47 T20Is and scored 983 runs with 5 fifties at an excellent average of around 33 and a strike rate of 133.

7. Maiden or last Test series: Despite all the talent and immense cricketing skills, White couldn’t get that one last opportunity to represent Australia in test matches again after the Border-Gavaskar trophy of 2008 due to his disastrous performance. He amassed just 146 runs from the 4 Tests (consisting of 7 innings without a fifty or ton).

8. Superficial comparison: In his early days, the batsman was often compared to the bowling legend – Shane Warne for his astonishing ability to turn the ball as a leg-break googly bowler.

9. Successful 2014: Where there is a will there is a way. The explosive batsman made it true because he performed brilliantly in the T20 format last year. He scored 271 runs in 9 matches with 2 half-centuries at an average of 54.20. Albeit, he didn’t play a single twenty-twenty international for Australia in 2015 until now.

10. Secret to Cameron’s Test wickets: All 5 wickets that the he has his Test career are Indian batsmen. He got all these wickets during the bilateral Test series against India in 2008. Surprisingly, his very first victim was the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar. White dismissed Tendulkar on 49 just when the legend was about to break Brian Lara’s world record of 11953 runs. However, the batting maestro achieved the same feat in the very next test match against the Aussies.
