23 more charged in Kerala for celebrating Pakistan win in Champions Trophy

More arrests expected on account of sedition

It was only a two days back when reports emerged from Madhya Pradesh about 15 arrests being made for people celebrating Pakistan’s win in the Champions Trophy. 23 more have been charged from Kerela for celebrating the thumping win the arch rivals Pakistan over India.

In Bhopal, a couple of days back, police lodged a complaint against 15 youngsters on the account of sedition. Acting on the complaint, police detained and booked the youngsters under section 124A (sedition) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.

Going down south in a small town of Kasargod, Kerala, 23 more youngsters were detained under the charges of rioting and unlawful assembly, according to the police officials. Razaq, Masood, Siraj and 20 others of Kumbadaje panchayat have cases filed against them after complaints raised by local BJP leader Rajesh Shetty yesterday.

After Sarfraz Ahmed’s men crushed the star-studded line up of India in the finals of the multilateral tournament by a monumental margin of 180 runs, the men allegedly burst crackers and raised slogans in support of the men in green. Pakistan clinched their first ICC Champions Trophy after they posted a score of 339 in front of the Indians.

Fakhar Zaman stole the show with the bat as Azhar Ali, Mohammad Hafeez and Imad Wasim provided him with apt support as Pakistan powered towards a total of 339. Chasing a mammoth target of 340, Indian stars who were in prime form in the tournament had no answer to the swing and pace of Mohammad Amir and golden ball winner Hassan Ali. The only batsman who managed a pose a threat was Hardik Pandya who top scored for the Indians for his 43-ball 76.

However, none of the youngsters from Kerala have been arrested until now as further enquiry is being set up to identify the rest of the 20 youngsters. Police said cases for offences including punishment for unlawful assembly, rioting and negligent conduct with respect to explosive substances under the Indian Penal Code had been registered against the 23 persons
