They are 3-0 up, they are the number one side: Aaron Finch

"You have to play 100 per cent to beat (India) in these conditions. If you play 90 per cent, it’s not good enough here," he quoted.

Australian opener Aaron Finch feels that the current Australian side is in the transition phase. This is the primary reason for their overseas woes in the recent times. Team Australia are currently 3-0 down in the ongoing 5-match ODI series against India. They have had a horrid time touring in the recent past. Australia have failed to win a single match in their last 13 overseas ODI fixtures.

Aaron Finch noted that the series defeats against South Africa and India have bee against quality opposition. However, that has certainly taken a toll on their confidence. He feels that playing with the right attitude is what the team needs at the moment. He hopes to get things back on track for the team.

“Winning away from home is what every side strives to achieve and I think whenever you start losing, you can lose a little bit of confidence in yourself and in the way you’re playing. The couple of away series that we’ve played, in South Africa and India, we’ve lost the series against some quality sides,” quoted Aaron Finch as per the quotes in cricket.com.au.

“You have to play well but I think you also have to go in with the right attitude and make sure that when you do get an opportunity to win a game, you don’t let that slip,” he added further.

Not giving India a sniff

Finch rightly remarked that the Indian team is at the peak of their game. He pointed out how the Australia team has had their moments slip away by giving a sniff to the Indian side. The Indian side has capitalized on crucial junctures to make the most out of the opportunities. He went on to quote that there is obviously a gap between the quality of the two competing sides at the moment.

“We’ve been in a couple of good positions in the first few games and as soon as you give India a sniff, they’ll beat you nine times out of 10. You have to play 100 per cent to beat (India) in these conditions. If you play 90 per cent, it’s not good enough here. It’s how we’ve played for the past four or five years in our conditions,” mentioned the Australian opener.

“Teams have to be at their absolute best to beat us. There’s obviously a gap between the sides at the moment and they’re proving that. They’re 3-0 up, they’re the No.1 side in the world and there’s just a few things we need to tinker with as players to bridge that gap and get the results going our way,” Finch conceded.

On his fitness

Aaron Finch was not a part of the team in the first couple of ODIs. The fitness concerns have been bothering him for quite some time now. However, when he got his chance in the Indore ODI, Finch hit a magnificent ton. He mentioned that he had to convince the team management about his fitness on the eve of the match.

“I had to convince them to let me play, to be honest. If it had have gone again last night, I might have been in a bit of strife. But the amount of work that I’d put into it and the amount of physio and rehab that I’d had, it gave me a lot of confidence that I’d get back and play and be 100 per cent fit. So it was nice for that to hold u,” he remarked.
