Unprecedented times warrant unprecedented decisions. Due to the deadly Covid-19 pandemic, the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was suspended. The likes of Varun Chakravarthy, Sandeep Warrier, Amit Mishra, and Wridhimann Saha were infected with Covid-19, and as a result, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had no option but to postpone the tournament.

But then, we witnessed some riveting cricketing action in the tournament. There were scintillating run chases (Mumbai Indians chasing 219 against Chennai Super Kings), and sensational collapses (Punjab Kings could manage to score just 106/8 against CSK) as well.

And, at the time of suspension of the tournament, the Delhi Capitals (DC) side is occupying the top place in the IPL points table. There were also some ‘first-time’ events that took place in the 14th edition of the IPL. In this article, let us take a look at 3 such events.

3. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) occupies the last place in the points table

Since their entry into the IPL in the year 2013, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) side has been one of the most consistent teams in the tournament. Out of the 8 seasons that they have participated in the IPL (excluding 2021) they have reached the playoffs on 6 occasions, have finished as the runners-up once, and even won the IPL title in the year 2016.

But then, in the 2021 edition of the IPL, the ‘Orange Army’ looked totally clueless. The side could manage to win just one match out of the 7 that they played and occupied the last place in the points table at the time of suspension.

And, this is the first time that the SRH side is occupying the last place in the points table. The worst finish that the SRH side endured prior to the 2021 IPL edition was in 2014 and 2015, where they finished at the 6th place.
