Throughout his career, Karthik has never been able to cement himself as a regular player in the squad. Firstly, it was MS Dhoni, who prevented him from making a mark. Karthik was a member of the World Cup squad, but he got to bat only twice throughout the tournament.

And now, Rishabh Pant’s rise has become another chapter of his unlucky career. Everyone has hailed Pant as the future of the cricket, with the selectors clearly wanting to groom him. The BCCI also named some backup options to manage his workload, but Karthik does not feature in that list either, the reason being his poor form.

Clearly, the management would now like to prepare Pant, Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson, which might mean the end of the road of the 34-year-old.
