Chennai Super Kings, the three-time champions of IPL have been majorly scrutinized in IPL 2020. They are in trouble since the time they have landed in UAE as their two match-winners, Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh opted out of the mega event. The franchise that looked like a dominating force in the last couple of seasons is struggling to find balance and their performance has been extremely below their standards.

As their chances of qualifying for the playoffs are almost over, CSK is looking to give opportunities to their youngsters. CSK have qualified for the finals for a record 8 times and they were also the only team to qualify for the playoffs in each season before 2020. Like always, the yellow army would be looking forward to bouncing back in the next season and come back stronger.

As the mega auction is expected to happen in the next season, the teams can only retain three players. Considering that Chennai’s several players have crossed their prime years, they will look to retain younger players who will be available for more than three years. CSK might well release MS Dhoni as well and he might be retained later via RTM card.

Here are the three players CSK should retain if Mega Auction happens in IPL 2021:-

1. Deepak Chahar

Deepak Chahar has been a quality pacer for CSK in IPL. He has bowled extremely well in the powerplay and his heroics in IPL earned him a place in Team India as well. Considering that Chahar is only 28 years of age, he can play for more than three years for CSK.

If the yellow army retains him, he can continue his role as the leader of their bowling attack. Also getting a pacer who is representing India at the highest level is a hefty task in IPL auctions. Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami, all are expected to get retained by their respective franchises.

Deepak Chahar has picked up more than 40 wickets for CSK so far and has the ability to take wickets upfront. He has been quite useful for the Chennai franchise. Also, Chahar has been leading the Ranji Trophy team, Rajasthan for quite some time and his experience can help the team immensely. Considering that CSK has always believed in maintaining its core, Chahar could be one of the players to continue playing for them.
