The Delhi Capitals side has been one of the most consistent teams in the last three years of the IPL with them qualifying to the top four on each of the three occasions. But DC are having a mixed season this year. The Rishabh Pant-led side is positioned 5th at the points table with them having six wins and six loses.
Regardless of their performance this season, the Capitals will be focusing on getting some key players for the 2023 IPL which will be played in every Indian stadium (subject to Covid-19) unlike this year where every match is played only in Mumbai and Pune. Here are three key players DC should target in next year’s IPL auction.
1. Alex Hales
Alex Hales has been one of the purest strikers of the cricket ball with him enjoying a decent run for the England national side. Even though he hasn’t appeared for the English side since 2019, he has however showcased his talent by performing in various franchise cricket globally.
Hales has already played for the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise back in 2018 and was picked by the Knight Riders in this year’s auction. When many saw this as a good pick, Hales’s untimely withdrawal from the tournament due to bubble fatigue meant KKR had to replace him with Aaron Finch.
If things are right and Hales decides to play IPL next year then Delhi Capitals would be beneficial in getting him as he with his recent good performances could be an ideal opener alongside David Warner who can provide the team a great start during the powerplay. His 2539 runs in T20 cricket also prove how good of a player he is at the top of the order.
