This could be a surprising team in this list. One could argue the fact that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have a settled team already and what’s the point of chopping and changing. No team has been as successful as CSK in the history of the IPL. They’ve made it to the playoffs in every season.
Since their return after a two-year hiatus in 2018, they’ve made it to two finals and won one. However, in 2019, the batting did blow hot and cold. MS Dhoni and Faf du Plessis had a good tournament in 2019 but apart from them, all the other star batsmen averaged under 25.
Hence, with Shane Watson being injury-prone and the likes of Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu inconsistent, the addition of Joe Root could give the CSK batting a bit of a boost. Moreover, he plays spin well and with half of CSK’s games in Chepauk, the England Test captain could be a great addition to the squad.
