It was in the 2018 Under-19 World Cup that Ishan Porel first shot into the limelight. He had already made his first-class and List ‘A’ debut for Bengal before that. However, amongst a battery of fast bowlers, Ishan Porel slipped under the radar. He had taken six wickets from four games but all eyes were on the likes of Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi.

Moreover, injuries weren’t kind to Porel and he was on the sidelines quite a bit. However, he’s come back strongly. He took 10 wickets from six games in the Vijay Hazare and seven wickets from as many games with an economy of 5.66 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy this season. In the Ranji Trophy, he’s taken 12 wickets.

Porel has continued his good form and rhythm in New Zealand where he’s taken 10 wickets from four games. Hence, with Indian fast bowlers prone to injuries these days, Porel might be one of the options Rohit Sharma might turn to if he becomes the captain.
