4. Mohammad Shahzad

The talented wicketkeeper from Afghanistan has seen many ups and downs in his life. Before this T20 World Cup, he was out of the side for more than two years. Hence, there was a bit of surprise over his inclusion in the first place. But, many had evaluated that with the fact that he has a far superior record in the UAE and has a lot of experience of playing in those conditions.
There is more than one reason why Shahzad might not take the flight to Australia. One of the major reasons is his inexperience in playing on the bouncy and pacy tracks. It should also be noted that no one in the current Afghanistan squad has a lot of experience in doing so. However, it would be a better plan to get some new players and help them develop.
On top of that, there has always been an issue with his fitness. This had also hampered his 2019 World Cup campaign. Lastly, to stay in contention for the next year’s tournament, he had to get some runs. His 45 against Namibia was impressive and delivered a win, but he scored 22, 8, 0, and 4 in the rest of the four innings.
