Improbable but definitely not impossible.

Roy is one of the very reasons why England is sitting pretty at the top of the ODI ranking. After the Brits’ humiliating exit from the 2015 World Cup, Roy got into the national team and has racked up nearly 3,000 ODI runs at a strike-rate in excess of 100. In many instances, he helped the Three Lions to flying starts. He doesn’t have the soundest of techniques, yet shows consistency and the average of 40.80 proves it.

In his last five ODI knocks, Jason has notched 502 runs at an average of 100 plus. No wonder why England is being considered as firm favourites, despite not winning any World Cup until now. His highest score of 180 came last year and when he got out, 45 deliveries still remained. Had he played a bit more, a double-ton was on the cards. And with the kind of form he’s been of late, he can topple Rohit as well.

4. Chris Gayle- Windies

It won’t be a surprise to know if opponents get a glimpse of ‘Thanos’- the legendary Marvel baddie- in Christopher Henry Gayle. The Windies opener doesn’t have the word’ mercy’ in his dictionary. The English team got a taste of his ‘ruthless’ self when he hammered 424 runs in five matches with a couple of centuries at a strike-rate of 134.17 in the recent series.

Zimbabwe would very well remember the damage Gayle could inflict on his day when he amassed 215 versus them. The hulk-like Jamaican is 39 years old, yet is deemed as a brute force. The 2019 edition of the mega event would be his final hurray in ODI cricket, and the Universal Boss would be keen to taste success one last time in the 50-overs format. He had a couple of decent warm-ups and is in good form.

5. Quinton de Kock- South Africa

In the last year or so, the Proteas have won every bilateral ODI series, barring the one against India. One reason behind their success has been their wicketkeeper, Quinton de Kock. In 106, One Dayers, the Gauteng-born has 14 centuries to his name along with 21 half-centuries. He is pocket-sized dynamite, who can’t be undermined by any means as in that case, he can make his opponents pay a hefty price.

Going by the class he possesses, De Kock has every chance of getting a double-century to his name. The South African batting has enough firepower down the order and that gives him the freedom of playing his natural game. The pitches in England are expected to be batting-friendly and Quinton will get his chance of scoring runs. Undoubtedly, he has the potential of eclipsing Rohit’s mammoth score.
