India have had a tournament to forget. Their performances in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 have been poor, to say the least. Despite being in a relatively easier group, they have failed to make it to the semis.

After losing their opening game to Pakistan, the men in blue lost to New Zealand’s team which more or less, sealed their fate for this tournament. However, there is another T20 WC coming in 2022. India would want to rectify their mistakes in order to have a better performance next year.

This means that a few harsh calls could be taken. Several players could miss out on the upcoming T20 WC in 2022. So which are those players who might not feature in it? Today we shall be taking a look at-

Indian players from T20 WC 2021 squad who may not be part of the 2022 campaign

1) Ishan Kishan:

Ishan Kishan is one of the most talented Indian players. His ability was hyped even before he made his international debut. However, it is very doubtful if he will feature in the next T20 WC.

One of the major reasons is the return of Shreyas Iyer. India’s regular number 4 batter had to miss out on the ongoing T20 WC but looks all set to return to the Indian team. Besides, there was an outrage on Dhawan’s ouster from India’s T20 side.

As Dhawan and Iyer would have been a sensational opener and middle-order batter respectively, one of them would definitely replace Kishan. The keeper needs to start being consistent in order to come in the reckoning once again. Last but not the least, India already have KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant as the keeping options.

2) Hardik Pandya:

Hardik Pandya has been one of India’s best all-rounders. Seldom would you find a player as explosive as him. His versatility makes him a key player.

However, there is a big question mark over his fitness. The all-rounder has been far from fit. His recent injuries haven’t helped his cause either.

It is very hard for him to merit a place in the team as a pure batter. The MI all-rounder can only play in the side if he is fit to bowl in every game. Besides, players like Shardul Thakur and Harshal Patel have been waiting for their opportunities

3) Varun Chakravarthy:

Varun Chakravarthy was the talk of the town before the commencement of the ICC T20 WC 2021. He was hyped to be India’s new mystery spinner. The leggie was supposed to be the “X-Factor” in this WC.

However, he was far from his best. Opposition teams were able to play him without breaking a sweat. He wasn’t even able to pick a wicket in the three games in which he played.

So much so that he went wicketless against Scotland as well. Moreover, the finger spinners comprising of Ashwin and Jadeja performed much better than him in the given opportunities. Several leggies are in the reckoning to make it to the XI as well.

4) Rahul Chahar:

Rahul Chahar was a surprise pick. Not many cricket pundits expected to see his name in India’s T20 WC squad. It gets more shocking when one realizes that the player he replaced was Yuzvendra Chahal.

Chahal has been one of the best T20I spinners in the world. He has taken the most number of wickets for an Indian spinner in this format as well. Thus, one can expect him to replace Rahul Chahar in India’s next T20I series.

Besides, Chahar’s form hasn’t been brilliant either. He had a mediocre IPL 2021. An important point to be noted is the fact that he got only one chance in T20 WC where he failed to display his skills.

5) Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been a loyal servant to the Indian team. Over the years, he has been a vital cog. His record as a T20 bowler is good as well.

However, he hasn’t been in the best of the form of late. He had a lukewarm IPL 2021 too. Moreover, his skills as a death bowler have tapered off to an extent.

His injury concerns haven’t helped either. With the emergence of several talented pacers like Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh, and T Natrajan, B.Kumar has a steep road ahead. Besides, India needs a bowler who can bowl in any situation of the game.
