Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on 15th April announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming World Cup to be played in England. The Men in Blue will begin their campaign against South African on 5th June in Southampton. Playing in the World Cup is every cricketer’s dream and there are a few players who will feature in their first ever World Cup.

The squad named yesterday comprises of most tried and tested names whereas the selectors had to opt for a new face for a crucial spot. They were building up to the World Cup for quite some time now and most names had managed to qualify themselves. With quite a lot of changes in the side from the one that played the 2015 edition, the young guns will want to showcase their talent and skills at the grandest stage of them all.

Here is a list of 5 players who are picked in the World Cup squad for the first time :

1. Jasprit Bumrah

The fast bowler is currently ranked No. 1 in ODI bowlers ranking and is among one of the most lethal fast bowlers of the current generation. Since making his ODI debut in 2016, Jasprit Bumrah has taken 85 wickets in 49 ODI matches at an impressive economy of 4.51 runs per over.

His quick-arm action has made his variations almost inconspicuous for the batsmen to read. His ability to strike with the new ball mixed with his slower balls and yorkers at the death makes him one of India’s most potent weapons heading into the World Cup. Currently, there is no better bowler than Bumrah when it comes to death bowling in white ball cricket.

Bumrah will look to continue his form and bowl some match winning spells in his first World Cup as the Indian team heavily relies on him both at the start and end of the innings.
