The match-winning cameo in the Nidahas Trophy Final back in March 2018 revived Dinesh Karthik’s career to some extent. But after the 2019 World Cup, the veteran again finds himself out of the selector’s radar.

The T20 World Cup is 10 months away and the Indian team management is mostly busy grooming Rishabh Pant. Meanwhile, Karthik has kept honing his skills at the domestic level. Karthik was Tamil Nadu’s leading run-scorer in the SMAT 2019-20, having scored 301 runs at an average of 33.44.

Though he started the tournament with a few substantial knocks, he was unable to convert starts in the second half of the league. Karthik can be said to be a little down on confidence. Taking him to Bangladesh for the two-match series will give him a chance to find his rhythm a bit.
