Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders have always enjoyed a neck to neck rivalry between them. This match was no different. Batting first, Gautam Gambhir and Brendon McCullum blazed their way to nearly 100 in less than 11 overs without losing a wicket.

However, a flurry of wickets without a substantial score by the middle order batsmen choked the chances of a good finish for the Knight Riders. Debabrata Das’ little cameo helped them to a respectable score of 158 for the loss of six wickets.

Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay weren’t too far behind in pursuit of 159, racing to 97 in about 11 overs. Nevertheless, they too were dented by a series of wickets in the middle overs. With 27 required off the last two overs, MS Dhoni smacked 18 runs off the second last over to bring the equation to 9 from the last over.

Rajat Bhatia was given the responsibility to defend a mere nine off the last over. After Bravo took a single off the first delivery, MS Dhoni missed a length ball which crashed onto the middle stump. Bhatia was proving to be a tough bowler to get away with.

He picked a very important wicket and gave away only three runs in the next two balls after that. An excellent over ended with a low full toss which saw Bravo walloping it over long-on for a six. This was an important win in the context of the tournament for it gave Chennai a new lifeline.
