New Zealand cricket is fortunate to have a player like Kane Williamson in their ranks. He is a cricketer of the highest pecking order. Under his captaincy, the Black Caps have become one of the top sides in world cricket. Not only that, but he is also the backbone of their batting unit across formats.

His batting credentials coupled with his smart cricketing brain makes him one of the modern-day greats of the game. As a batsman alone, Williamson is a delight for purists. Even in T20 cricket, he scores most of his runs with textbook shots. And it has certainly worked for him as he has gathered close to 1,700 runs in 58 games.

Sadly barring IPL, Williamson hasn’t played much franchise T20 cricket. There also he has warmed benches as a part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad camp in the initial seasons. It is only in the 2018 IPL, in the absence of David Warner, he got an opportunity to display his T20 skills. He grabbed it with both hands and ended up as the second-highest run-scorer of the tournament (735 runs).

Still, it will not be wrong to say that he has been under-used by the Orange Army. Even after averaging 40 in as many games, the Kiwi hasn’t been a regular feature in their playing XI. If given proper chances, he would have been the perfect solution to their long-standing middle-order problems. In this upcoming season also, he might not get many games as Mohammad Nabi has been in good form in the ongoing CPL.
