Dinesh Karthik has been around the Indian team for a long time but has got very few opportunities to flourish in the international arena. He made his debut 15 years ago in 2004, and till now he has played 91 games. The talented wicketkeeper-batsman can bat at any position in the playing XI, and of late he has added finishing skills to his repertoire. Karthik has never used his chances wisely and that’s why he has played only 7 out of 18 series after the last World Cup.

He has been added to the squad as a back-up keeper, and just edged Rishabh Pant because of his experience. Karthik has been inconsistent in his tourney, as he has scored 1700 runs at an average of 31. His ODI strike rate is 74 which is below par for a modern-day cricketer but he has the ability to play innovative shots. Virat Kohli and the selectors have backed him because of his calm-headed personality and in his recent outings, he has shown a lot of promise.
