5 Players who rejected IPL offers for various reasons

Every modern-day cricketer wants to play and compete with the best players around the world. IPL is one tournament which allows them to do that. It is rated as one of the best T20 leagues in the world.

Players from all across the world are very keen to play the IPL. In fact, players have themselves revealed that they have got better and have understood their game better after IPL stints. But not everyone thinks on the same lines.

There are players who have rejected lucrative offers from various IPL franchises.

Here are five such cricketers who snubbed IPL contracts at some stage in their careers for various reasons.

1. Kusal Perera rejected SRH offer

Back in 2018, when David Warner was banned by Cricket Australia (CA) for 12 months, he was also barred from taking part in the IPL that year. He was Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) skipper but Kane Williamson ascended to the captaincy throne. But they were looking for a replacement batsman.

The Hyderabad franchise approached Kusal Perera for the Australian opener’s replacement. However, much to most people’s surprise, the dashing Sri Lankan left-hander rejected the offer. He had been in good form and had scored 204 runs in four innings in the Nidahas Trophy and hence, SRH thought that the attacking Sri Lankan opener might be Warner’s ideal replacement.

However, Perera declined the offer to play domestic cricket in Sri Lanka and work his way back into the Test team. That did work for Perera as he was recalled to the Test side for the tour of West Indies In June 2018 after one and a half year.
