It is no secret that the England Cricket Board (ECB) weren’t in favour of the IPL in the initial years. In fact, the centrally contracted players didn’t have the luxury of playing in the IPL and it would affect their contracts with the national side. Hence, that was one of the main reasons why most England players stayed away from the Indian T20 league for the first few years.

Ravi Bopara was also among one of them who stayed away. The Essex all-rounder had revealed that he was offered an IPL contract. However, he was focused on playing for England despite the IPL offering a tempting sum of money. But Bopara played two seasons for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in 2009 and 2010.

The England all-rounder declined another IPL offer in 2011. He was offered a 150,000-pound contract by Mumbai Indians when Davy Jacobs was ruled out due to a hip injury. But in 2015, Bopara turned out to play for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
