The Indian Premier League (IPL) is billed by many cricket fans as the toughest T20 tournament on the planet. The best cricketers of the world compete against each other at this event. In the last 13 years, this tourney has established itself as one of the most popular events across all sports.

BCCI initiated the IPL in 2008, with eight city-based franchises, namely Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Deccan Chargers, Kings XI Punjab, Delhi Daredevils, and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The tournament has had its ups and downs in its incredible journey thus far. One of the unique things about the IPL is the auction.

Before every new season, the BCCI conducts an auction, where the teams can bid for the players. Generally, the franchises retain their elite players. The rest of the players’ retention is decided by looking at their previous performance. However, the nature of the IPL is such that sometimes a player who did not impress retains his spot, while on the other side, a few good players surprisingly return to the auction.

Here, we will glance at those five players whom the IPL teams released despite faring decently:

The hero of India’s 2011 World Cup and 2007 T20 World Cup triumphs, Yuvraj Singh, surprisingly never settled at an IPL team. In his 11-year long career, Singh played for the Kings XI Punjab, Pune Warriors, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The Bangalore-based franchise had signed him for a whopping 14 crores in the 2014 season.

Yuvraj had a decent season as he was the second highest run-getter for the team, with 376 runs in 14 matches. Only AB de Villiers scored more runs for RCB than Yuvraj in that season. The southpaw had slammed three half-centuries, and scored runs at an average of 34.18.

With his left-arm spin bowling skills, Yuvraj dismissed five batsmen of the opposition team. He took a four-wicket haul against the Rajasthan Royals. Still, RCB did not retain him for the 2015 season.
