Big Bash League (BBL) was established by Cricket Australia (CA) in 2011 as the country’s premier T20 league tournament and the first edition of the tournament took place in 2011-12. The viewership for the tournament is quite high and the crowd attendance is astonishing at times. The tournament has been a massive success over the years and women’s BBL has also started.

Australia has always had one of the best cricketing talents and hence, the overseas contingent in the tournament has been put in the shadows by the local talents most times. A lot of popular names have taken part in the tournament and the platform could be used to make an entry into the international side as well given the competitiveness.

Eight teams namely, Adelaide Strikers, Melbourne Renegades, Melbourne Stars, Sydney Sixers, Sydney Thunder, Hobart Hurricanes, Perth Scorchers, and Brisbane Heat take on each other in group stages. The top five teams qualify for the playoffs to determine the finalists. The winner of the tournament receives a cash prize of $450,000 which is equal to INR 2.48 Crores while the runner-up receives $260,000. The two losing semi-finalists receive $80,000 while the fifth-placed team gets $20,000.
