The IPL began in the year 2008 with a bang when Brendon McCullum scored an astonishing century in the very first game of the tournament. Playing for Kolkata Knight Riders against Royal Challengers Bangalore, he powered his way to 158 off just 73 balls that included 10 fours and 13 sixes. That knock just set the tone for IPL and it became an instant hit and continues to be. The Kiwi showed how the batsmen were going to dominate the shortest format of the game in the years to come.

After that, there have been 45 more centuries hit till date across 10 seasons. The format that was argued to be very short and not giving enough time to the batsmen, later on, proved that if you are willing to spend time at the crease, there is a century for you. But the three-figure mark didn’t come easily to everyone. There are several quality batsmen in the history of IPL who have not reached the landmark.

Here are the 5 prominent top order batsmen in IPL history who have not yet scored a century:

The left-hander is amongst those batsmen in IPL history who have had a huge impact on whichever sides they have represented. He was with the Delhi Daredevils for the initial three years and then moved to Kolkata Knight Riders in the year 2011. He has batted as an opener on most occasions and an opening batsman has the best opportunity to score a hundred but this hasn’t been the case with Gambhir.

He has played a massive 142 IPL matches so far and amassed 4021 runs. He has 35 half-centuries to his credit but a century has yet eluded him. The 35-year-old is also the fourth highest run-getter in the history of the league. Even though he doesn’t have a century yet he holds the record for the most number of half-centuries in the league. He has notched up 35 fifties so far and is on par with David Warner.

Gambhir’s stats in IPL:

Matches Innings Runs Average Strike Rate Best 100s 50s
142 141 4021 31.91 125.14 93 0 35
