The ICC ODI rankings rate the players based on their performances in a given period of time. Virat Kohli the best Indian batter was in a long reign at the number one spot for over three years. He was on the throne for 1258 days after which he was dethroned by his counterpart Babar Azam.

Babar became only the fourth player to attain the top spot in the rankings from his country. He now leads the Indian captain by 29 ratings and Kohli is on the second rank as of now. Virat is third in the list of holding the top spot for a number of days right after Viv Richards and Michael Bevan.

Babar Azam has reclaimed this spot after his rating gained 13 points after his 94 runs against South Africa in April 2021 and has been in the position till now. Hence, with the rising quality and number of players in the contention, it might not be easy for Babar to claim this position for a long period like Virat Kohli.
