Afghanistan have quickly grown their stature in International cricket and their remarkable success in the short span forced the ICC to hand them the Test status. Afghanistan’s authority over teams among the Associate countries ensured they turned in to a full-member nation from an Associate country in the space of only four years. This is the shortest span among the previous four full member countries.

The Afghans stepped into the International stage on the back of some fearsome pacers only to end up by fielding with all spin attack at times. The rise of mystery spinners helped them find their identity thanks to the T20 Leagues over the Globe. The likes of Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan have been pioneers of the war-torn country which strived hard to make an impact in this sport for a couple of decades.

Here we look at the five major records that Afghanistan and its players hold in International cricket:

Afghanistan holds the record for the longest winning streak in the T20I format with 11 consecutive wins in 2016 and 2017. Afghanistan’s streak began when they defeated Windies in the World T20 game by 6 runs. Windies went on to claim the World T20 for the 2nd time after this defeat.

Afghanistan, on the other hand, kept raising their standards as an associate team and extended their winning streak to 11. The streak finally came to an end when they toured the Caribbean in mid-2017. Pakistan is closing in to break this record with an ongoing 9 consecutive T20I wins streak but still, need three more to rewrite the record.

Afghanistan also has the highest win percentage in the T20I history with 67.64 having won 46 out of 68 matches they played thus far.
