With series victories against the Aussies and the Kiwis, India seems to be riding high on confidence at the moment and all these are healthy signs, keeping in mind the ICC 2019 World Cup. The countdown has truly begun. While the playing XI looks settled at the moment, the main question is regarding the reserve opener in the squad.

KL Rahul would have had that position to himself if he was a bit more consistent on trying conditions. The recent off-field controversies haven’t helped his cause either and his chances of making it to the World Cup squad look bleak at the moment. Now what this does is that it opens the door for the likes of Gill and Shaw which is quite fascinating as they can prove to be the surprise element of the 2019 ICC CWC.

5. KL Rahul

The start of 2018 was a rather disastrous one for the 26-year-old and since then, his form and performances have been heading down-south on a consistent basis. KL showed a tremendous amount of potential and promise when he started off his international career and so far, he hasn’t been able to live up to it. An average of 35.22 and a strike rate of close to 81 does no justice to the talent the right-handed batsman from Karnataka possesses and he will be eager to turn around his recent history in England.

His recent off-field controversies haven’t helped his cause either but more importantly, it earned him a much-needed break and one cannot simply count the youngster out of the game. His string of low scores hasn’t helped India overseas but KL has what it takes to succeed on the grandest stage of all and Rahul has a special liking for the IPL, and should he find some form, he will be on the flight to England.
