5 Times when ICC trolled cricketers on social media

ICC caters cricket fans all over the world via its social media accounts and keeps fans updated with the latest developments in the cricketing world. ICC’s social media admin has quite a big task as he/she needs to keep millions of fans engaged with new content every single day.

Apart from delivering news updates, the apex cricket board also come up with some interesting memes and has even trolled players on quite a few occasions.

Posts where ICC has trolled players often divide fans. While some find it quite funny, others feel that players shouldn’t be trolled in such a manner by any means.

On that note, here’s a look at 5 cricketers who were trolled by ICC on social media:

1. Hasan Ali

The most recent one on the list, Hasan Ali was trolled by ICC for the way he was dismissed in the recent Test series against South Africa. The Pakistani bowler was batting pretty decently and scored 21 runs in just 32 balls, before getting out.

He went for a leg-side slog in the 109th over, but ended up missing the ball and saw his middle stump uprooted. It wasn’t the best choice of shot and ICC’s social media handle made the most of it.

Ali also gifted Kagiso Rabada his 200th Test wicket in the process. However, it was Pakistan who emerged victorious as they defeated South Africa by seven wickets.

2. Shoiab Akhtar

This incident took place last year and it all started with ESPNcricinfo tweeting about 10 exciting matchups featuring 10 players from the present and 10 from the past.

One of those matchups featured Steve Smith and Shoaib Akhtar, and the former Pakistani pacer retweeted it and commented that he would be able to dismiss Smith on the fourth ball after three ‘hurting’ bouncers.

ICC reacted with quite a hilarious picture of laughing at the former player’s comments, but the Rawalpindi Express didn’t take it well and hit back at the ICC, questioning their neutrality and the way they function.

3. Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin posted a video of him playing in the nets with Vinod Kambli back in May 2019 and many people spotted the fact that he bowled some big no-balls during the fun session.

ICC took notice of Sachin’s tweet and replied: “Watch your front foot” along with a picture of the former umpire, Steve Bucknor. The former Indian batsman was the victim of quite a few controversial decisions by Steve Bucknor and hence, the cheeky response from ICC.

The Little Master saw the fun side of the tweet and replied by tweeting that “At least this time I am bowling and not batting.”

4. David Warner

David Warner didn’t have the best of times in the 2019 Ashes as he could manage to get into double-digits on just two occasions. He had a torrid time against Stuart Broad in particular as he was dismissed by the Englishman on seven occasions in just the five games.

Cricket.com.au’s Twitter handle tweeted “David Warner resumes his battle with Stuart Broad” on the first day of the 4th Test, but the Australian batsman got out for a duck at the hands of the English pacer.

ICC retweeted the tweet with the comment “this aged well” and trolled the batsman for his struggles against Broad. However, Australia won the game by 185 runs and in the process retained the Ashes.

5. Mohammad Hafeez

This incident took place when Bangladesh and Pakistan faced off each other during the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales. When Hafeez was asked to bowl during the 2nd innings, he delivered a loopy full-toss in the third over that was smashed for a boundary.

ICC didn’t waste the opportunity to make a meme out of this. They made a hilarious video where the ball went out of the world and into the universe. Chris Gayle was seen in the video as he is known as the “Universe Boss”, and even Shahid Afridi was there.

The video left many fans in splits. However, that loose delivery didn’t have much of an impact on the game as Pakistan won quite comfortably.
