The Universe Boss, Chris Gayle, was back at his prime best on the field. The veteran cricketer slammed his 6th IPL ton and reinstated his claims at the highest level. The innings comes as a big relief for the big Jamaican and his fans. Prior to the commencement of the tournament, many wondered whether Gayle would get a game this season.

These thoughts were largely due to the fact that he had gone unsold in the first round of the IPL auctions this year. It was in the second round of the auctions when Chris Gayle finally found a solitary bidder, the Kings XI Punjab. Coming in to the tournament, he did not get a game straightaway. He got his opportunity in the previous game for the Kings and slapped a quick fifty to announce his arrival with a Player of the Match award.

And now, in his second game of the season, he has shown some serious muscle with the bat and has come up with a much bigger show. Having opened the innings on the day, Chris Gayle hammered an unbeaten 104 off just 63 deliveries. His knock was embellished with a four and eleven maximums. In one of the overs bowled by Rashid Khan, he smacked four sixes. The end result – Rashid Khan finishing his spell with 1/55 in four overs, the worst for the Afghanistani leggie in T20 cricket.

Not old yet!

Gayle’s efforts helped Kings XI Punjab put 193 runs on the board after batting first. Commenting on his knock after the innings, Gayle dedicated the knock to his daughter who will be turning two tomorrow. He cheekily remarked that the knock will prove people that he is not old yet!

“A lot of people thought that I am old. Nothing to prove though. Wherever I go across the globe, just want to earn some respect. This one is dedicated to my daughter Crisalina though; it’s her birthday tomorrow. So, yeah, this is for her. Tomorrow she will turn two and it’s her first time in India. We’re hoping to have a nice time,” Chris Gayle quoted.

Commenting further on the same note, he expressed his delight over scoring well for his new franchise. He thanked the support staff for keeping him and running. He joked that he is getting so fit that he might soon be able to tough his feet again.

“I am glad to score my century in just my second game at home, feels really good. Fantastic innings and I hope we can defend it. (On his work ethics with KXIP) Viru mentioned two good guys to me – the yoga guy and the massage guy, who help me stay flexible. Hopefully, I’ll be able to touch my feet in a week’s time,” Chris Gayle added.
