In the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), there have been many cases of fraudulent activities when it comes to selling tickets and buying them. On several occasions, there have been cases when a handful of people have caused discomfort to other people in the stands. Hence, the organisers of IPL matches in Bengaluru have decided to make Aadhaar Cards mandatory while buying tickets.

The agenda behind this is that the credentials of every individual will be fed in the database. In case of any unscrupulous or criminal activity, it will be easier for the police to track down the person by looking up in the database. The IPL matches organisers, DNA Networks, and the Bengaluru City Police have come together with the idea.

Both parties have managed to the permission of the Home Minister regarding the same in a recent meeting. Home Minister G Parameshwata, City Police Commissioner Praveen Sood, officials from DNA Networks and Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) were involved in the meeting. The organisers and the police have also met the Aadhaar officials. The Aadhaar officials gave their consent too and will be supplying equipment such as the fingerprint scanners.

The idea was earlier proposed for the final T20I between India and England scheduled to be played in Bengaluru. However, it was a little too late for the organisers to get their act together in such a short span. The T20I will be played on February 1. One of the senior officials explained the entire idea.

As per the quotes in the Bangalore Mirror, he said, “While buying match tickets at the counter, a copy of Aadhaar card will have to be produced. The buyer’s card number and fingerprint impression will be fed into the system and cross-checked for authenticity. Those who bought tickets online by giving their Aadhaar numbers will have to verify their identity through fingerprint impression at the time of ticket collection.”
