In what will come as a massive shock for Delhi Capitals’ (DC) fans, it has been confirmed that Delhi skipper and batting talisman Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the entire 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Iyer’s desperate bid to save a boundary during the first ODI against England resulted in dislocation to his shoulder, and he might even have to undergo surgery.

In fact, this news was also officially confirmed by a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) source as well. The source stated that Iyer will have to undergo surgery, and will miss the entire 2021 edition of the IPL.

Adding that Iyer was in severe pain, the source further added that it might take a minimum of 4 months for the Indian batsman to even bat in the nets. “He will have to go under the knife. So, it looks not just the first part of IPL but Iyer will miss the entire IPL. It might take a minimum of four months before he can hit the nets again. He has been under severe pain,” revealed the BCCI source.

Delhi Capitals’(DC) owner Parth Jindal ‘absolutely devastated’ with Shreyas Iyer’s injury

The owner of the Delhi Capitals (DC), Parth Jindal also wished Iyer a quick recovery. Adding that he was absolutely devastated, Jindal asked Iyer to stay strong and concluded his tweet by stating that he had full faith in Iyer.

Iyer was in scintillating form in the 13th edition of the IPL that was held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The right-hander plundered 519 runs for his side last year and scored his runs at an average of 34.60. Iyer also scored 3 fifties last year for the Delhi outfit. His leadership in the 2020 edition of the IPL was also lauded as the Delhi Capitals (DC) reached the summit clash under the dynamic stewardship of Iyer.

And now, with Iyer ruled out of the upcoming edition of the IPL, the Delhi outfit will have to look at other possible candidates who can don the skipper’s hat.
