The much-awaited Abu Dhabi T20 Trophy will be played between October 4 and 6. Previously, four teams- Afghanistan’s Boost Defenders, Australia’s Hobart Hurricanes, Pakistan’s Lahore Qalandars and South Africa’s Multiply Titans- were decided and the fifth team was kept in suspense. Recently, the organisers announced the fifth team as England’s Yorkshire Vikings.

A total of seven matches will be played at the renowned Zayed Cricket Stadium where a number of international matches have already been played. October 4 and 5 have a couple of doubleheaders while October 6 has three matches, which also includes the Grand Finale.

“We expect millions around the world to follow”- Boucher

The tournament will have a number of massive names including the likes of Chris Gayle, Tymal Mills, Yasir Shah, Albie Morkel and others. The league is mostly to popularise cricket in the United Arab Emirates and bring a radical change to the game in the country. Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi’s cricket management is geared for the event while expecting the stands to be jam-packed over the three days.

“It will be a fantastic family event where there will be double-headers for each of the days. It’s a new start for cricket in Abu Dhabi and is a fantastic offering. There will be high quality cricket and hope the community comes out and support us,” Matt Boucher, the acting CEO of Abu Dhabi cricket was quoted as saying in Sport360.

“Given the considerable number of sub continental, British, South African, and Australian residents in Abu Dhabi, the wider UAE and Gulf region, we are confident of packing the increased 24,000 capacity of the iconic Zayed Cricket Stadium,” an optimistic CEO iterated.

“We’re looking forward to delivering a wonderful experience for our fans at the stadium but the tournament will certainly not be contained to the stands. We expect millions around the world to follow the action on TV, radio and social media – again, cementing Abu Dhabi’s position on the international cricket scene,” he added.
