The 8th day of the Abu Dhabi T10 League commenced with the Deccan Gladiators taking on the Maratha Arabians. After the latter opted to field, Pravin Tambe struck in the opening over to get rid of Azam Khan. It was a 64-run stand between Prashant Gupta, who slammed four fours and a couple of sixes en route to his 35 from 16, alongside Yasir Kaleem’s 28 from as many deliveries that recovered the team from the early loss.

Sompal Kami, however, dismissed both the batsmen in a space of two deliveries before Anwar Ali smoked a 12-ball 39 to power the Gladiators to 120/4. In response, the frugal spells from Zahoor Khan and Aaron Summers kept Arabians’ quest of momentum unfulfilled, who lost both Abdul Shakoor and Shoaib Malik cheaply.

Though skipper Mosaddek Hossain attempted his best, hitting three sixes and as many boundaries in his 21-ball 44, alongside Ishant Malhotra, who got 22 from 18 for himself, the Arabians could only reach 91/3 at the end of their innings, losing the fixture eventually by 29 runs.

In the second rubber of the day between Qalandars and Delhi Bulls, the latter emerged victorious quite convincingly after winning the toss and restricting their opponents to 107/6. Qalandars’ innings never quite got off as their batsmen kept getting starts before throwing their wicket away. 18 each from Chris Jordan and Samit Patel lower down the order after Tom Banton and Sohail Akhtar’s 14, respectively, took them only this far.

Chasing a below-par target for the win, Evin Lewis – smoked 5 sixes and three boundaries during his 48 from just 18 – firstly added 47 for the opening stand with Rahmanullah Gurbaz (17 from 12), and followed it with an unbeaten 64-run second-wicket partnership alongside Ravi Bopara, who scored 37 from 15, including five boundaries and a couple of fours, as the Bulls chased the target with 9 wickets in hand and 16 balls to spare.

In the final fixture of the day between Team Abu Dhabi and Bangla Tigers, Chris Gayle misfired and perished to George Garton for just 1. However, Paul Stirling’s 32-ball 64 alongside Luke Wright’s 18-ball 27 led Abu Dhabi to post 116/3 after they were inserted to bat.

During their response, the Tigers lost as many as 9 wickets for 95 and surrendered in front of Jamie Overton, who bagged a four-for and got good support from Obed McCoy and Naveen ul Haq, who both bagged a couple each. It was a lone effort from Johnson Charles, who witnessed a straightforward collapse as he scored 59 from 23 with eight boundaries and three sixes.

There were no other batsmen, barring Tom Moores (12 from 14), who could reach double-digits. Quite unsurprisingly, the Tigers lost the encounter by 21 runs.
