The cricket fraternity suffered a massive shock when Afghanistan cricketer Najeeb Tarakai left the world after meeting a horrific road accident. He was immediately brought under the medical after he suffered major injuries. However, he couldn’t be revived once he went into a state of coma.

To honour him, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has announced that they have renamed a Cricket Stadium on his name. The Behsood Cricket Stadium in Nangarhar will be renamed after the unfortunate incident, and it is under construction right now.

ACB stated that this decision came up after considering the fact that Tarakai was loved by the nation and donned the national jersey with all the pride. He made his debut for the national side in 2014 in the Asia Cup and was also featured in 12 T20Is. He hit a brilliant 90 against Ireland in Greater Noida, India. He averaged good 47.20 in first-class cricket, which included his career-high 200.

“The decision was taken considering the fact that Tarakai was loved by the nation and had represented Afghanistan as a national player with pride and valour,” said ACB in a statement.

“There is no doubt that Najeeb Tarakai was a man of high morals and a great asset to the country. We are desolated and saddened by his loss. He will always be remembered and will pray for his soul,” stated ACB Chairman Farhan Yusefzai.

It is important we appreciate his sacrifices and efforts: ACB Chairman

Yusefzai stated further that Tarakai brought great pride to the national team. In fact, all the players in the country bring them much pride and joy, and the people of the country oblige the fact well. The sacrifices and efforts that he made for the team shall be remembered forever, and it’s their duty to honour him in the best manner.

“It is important we appreciate his sacrifices and efforts, which is why today I want to name the Behsood Cricket Stadium in Nangarhar province after him. Therefore, the stadium shall be called as Najeeb Ullah Tarakai Cricket Stadium henceforth,” concluded Yusefzai.

Tarakai was hit by a speeding car while he was crossing the road in Nangarhar, Afghanistan. Sadly, he never gained conscience after the incident.
