Adam Gilchrist impressed with Indian women’s team captain Harmanpreet Kaur

Former Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist heaped praise on the Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who became the first Indian woman cricketer to be allowed to play in an overseas private league, for her impressive debut in the Women’s Big Bash League on Saturday. Gilchrist, who praised her batting while commentating, also posted a tweet about her performance.

Harmanpreet smashed 47 off 28 balls at the North Sydney Oval ground hitting two fours and three sixes batting second in the 6th match of the Women’s Big bash League at the North Sydney Oval, Sydney. Unfortunately, her innings went in vain as her side Sydney Thunders fell short of the target posted by the Melbourne Stars by 6 runs.

Batting first, the Melbourne Stars posted a target of 148 runs for the Sydney Thunder to chase. Emma Inglis (46 from 28 balls) and Katie Mack (30 from 27 balls) were the top contributors for the Stars. In reply, the Thunders were heading in the right direction with openers Rachel Haynes (31 from 28 balls) and Stefanie Taylor (32 from 35 balls) putting up a fifty run stand.

However, the batting side lost steam thereafter giving away four quick wickets. Harmanpreet Kaur, at one end batted with a counter-attacking more, scoring runs at a strike rate of 150. But, eventually, her efforts proved to be not enough as thunders fell short of the target by 6 runs. Harmanpreet, whose entry in the WBBL was a much talked about topic, has given a right impression about her and will now be one of the players to watch for throughout the tournament among local fans.
