Adam Zampa is fast emerging as one of Australia’s biggest positives in their ongoing tour of India. Just a couple of months ahead of the World Cup, the leg-spinner is finally showing he can deliver in pressure situations and can rattle even the best of batsmen. He has played in all the five games so far and has totally justified the faith by picking up 8 wickets including three wickets in the third ODI which handed Australia a rare win.

Zampa was out of favour with national selectors a year ago but is now on track to be Australia’s frontline spinner at his first World Cup. His performance against India’s star-studded top has more or less proved that he has what it takes to deliver on a consistent basis. On Friday, he dismissed India’s in-form trio of MS Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav and most importantly Virat Kohli to put Australia in command.

It was Kohli’s dismissal that turned the game around for the Aussies. While the visitors had managed to pick up wickets at regular intervals, Kohli’s presence was a big worry for them. The India skipper had already raced away to 123 off just 95 deliveries before Adam Zampa castled him to pave the way for his team’s win.

Zampa’s show, nonetheless, has impressed legendary Indian spinner Bishan Singh Bedi who thinks the leg-spinner’s time is ‘just around the corner’. Taking to Twitter, Bedi said that Zampa just needs to start playing Tests which will make him a different bowler, writing:

“Adam Zampa’s time is just around the corner I reckon..he just needs to break into Test Crkt..& he’ll be a different bowler I think..his best asset is age on his side..& a fairly uncomplicated bowling action..plus his visible ability to enjoy his craft-an OZ tradition..!!”

Kohli not my bunny:

Outwitting the world’s best batsman on a consistent basis is not an easy task. However, for Zampa it is turning out to be so. In five games so far, he has dismissed Kohli on three occasions. He, however, does not feel Kohli is his bunny.

“We bowled well collectively. The quicks upfront were amazing, Virat is a serious player, it was good to take his wicket when we did. I don’t think he’s my bunny, he’s one of the hardest players to bowl to,” Zampa said at the post-match presentation.
