Afghanistan cricket has been an inspirational story for the last one decade. They don’t boast of the best of services like the other cricketing nations, but that hasn’t turned out to be a roadblock in their journey. Recently, the team, captained by Asghar Afghan, performed exceptionally in the 2018 Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) where they gave every team a run for their money.

The inaugural edition of the Afghanistan Premier League (APL) is currently underway and Colin Munro, the New Zealand batsman said that playing alongside the best players in the world would help them to a significant extent. Moreover, the Durban-born cricketer hailed Rashid Khan, who is currently the number one ranked ODI all-rounder and the top-ranked T20I bowler.

Rashid has been brilliant

“They have match-winners with both bat and ball, and they have shown what they could do at the recent Asia Cup. I feel the APL would help their cricketers greatly. Rubbing shoulders with some of the best cricketers in the world will be beneficial for them,” Munro was quoted as saying in Sportstar.

“And they have already begun asking me questions. And I will be happy if a couple of young Afghan cricketers gain something by working with players like me at the APL. Rashid has been brilliant. He could turn the ball even on the state highway,” he added.

Munro has had an impressive time of late, especially in domestic T20 tournaments. He turned out to be the leading run scorers of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) with 567 runs from 13 matches, representing eventual champions Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR).

The left-handed batsman is currently playing for the Balkh Legends in the APL. He was also the first batsman in international cricket to notch three centuries in T20Is after which he was equalled by Indian opening batsman Rohit Sharma.
