Afghanistan Cricket Board severely punishes Mohammad Shahzad

Afghanistan wicket-keeper Mohammad Shahzad landed in a fresh trouble after he was fined 300,000 Afghanis by the Afghanistan cricket Board for violating the board’s code of conduct. The board chairman Shukrullah Atif Mashal confirmed the same to the media.

Mashal went on to add that the wicketkeeper-batsman was fined for violating the rules and regulations of the Cricket Board by playing outside the country without the permission of the board. He further added that the explosive batsman was playing for a cricket club outside the country without taking a permission from the ACB.

According to Khaama, the statement further read that Shahzad will face further sanctions if he continued to breach and violate the laws. However, reports had emerged earlier suggested that Shahzad was playing for a cricket club in Pakistan.

In 2017, He was banned for one year by the ICC

The International Cricket Council in December 2017 announced that Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Shahzad to be suspended from all cricket-related activities for twelve months backdated to 17 January 2017, the date of his sample collection.

ICC’s statement read, “Mr. Shahzad had provided a urine sample as part of the ICC’s out-of-competition testing programme in Dubai, UAE, on 17 January 2017. His sample was subsequently tested and found to contain clenbuterol. Clenbuterol is classified as a non-Specified Substance under WADA’s Prohibited List and is prohibited both in-competition and out-of-competition.”

“Mr. Shahzad admitted the violation and a twelve-month suspension has been imposed, backdated to 17 January 2017, the date of his sample collection. Mr. Shahzad will, therefore, be eligible to return to cricket on 17 January 2018.”

A valuable player for Afghanistan

The one-year absence from international cricket didn’t change the wicket-keeper’s game as he came back to the cricketing arena in January 2018 and brought back his explosive side along with him. Shahzad has been a valuable player for Afghanistan since 2009. He scored a total of 2239 runs in ODIs at an average of 33.92. In the shortest format of the game, he smashed 1816 runs in 60 games.
