Afghanistan vs Bangladesh, 2018: 1st T20I – Statistical Highlights

Afghanistan continued their rich form in the T20I format with a 45-run huge win over the 10th ranked Bangladesh in the first of the 3-match T20I series. The Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Dehradun became the 99th venue to host a T20I match. The home side Afghanistan posted 167/8 on the board with help of some lower order hitting. The going got tough for the Bangladesh batsmen as the Afghan spinners didn’t give them any chances and they crumbled.
All the stats and numbers that were recorded during Afghanistan’s thumping win in the first T20I:
1 – Tamim Iqbal getting out on the first ball of Bangladesh innings is the first such instance for them in the T20I format. Bangladesh lost their first wicket on the 2nd ball of the innings on five occasions but this was the first time they lost on the first ball of the innings.
This was the 4th time where Afghanistan claimed a wicket on the first ball of the innings in T20I to equal Australia, Windies and Sri Lanka.
6 – Number of Man of the Match awards Rashid Khan has won in International cricket (3 in ODIs and 3 in T20Is). Only Sachin Tendulkar (8) had more MoM awards in International cricket as a teenager.
12 – Bangladesh is the 12th team that Afghanistan has defeated at least once in the T20I format. Only Pakistan (17), Sri Lanka (15) and New Zealand (13) have defeated more opponents in the T20I cricket.
14 – Afghanistan won each of the last 14 T20I matches played in Asia. They won 14 of the last 17 T20I matches. Those three T20Is they lost were against Windies played at Basseterre.
19y 256d – Rashid Khan is the youngest among the 23 players to complete 50 wickets in the T20I format. Ireland’s George Dockrell was the previous youngest to get 50 T20I wickets as he was 24 years and 182 days old when he achieved the milestone.
25 – Afghanistan’s top three scoring 25+ is the 5th such instance for the team in a T20I inning. It is the 63rd time a team’s top three has scored 25 more in a T20I innings but the cumulative strike-rate of Afghanistan’s top three in this game is 107.05 which is the lowest of them all.
31 – Rashid completed 50 wickets in the T20I format with the wicket of Mushfiqur Rahim in his 31st match. He is the joint 2nd fastest to reach this milestone. Ajantha Mendis completed 50 T20I wickets in just 26 matches while Imran Tahir also took 31.
50 – Mosaddek Hossain was Rashid’s 50th wickets in the T20I format. Mohammad Nabi (63) is only other player to take 50 T20I wickets for Afghanistan. Rashid has taken 52 wickets in T20Is with two of those were for the ICC World XI last week.
