In their quest to register a T20I win against Afghanistan, the Ireland team will try their luck yet again in the 2nd T20I. The Irish men haven’t won a single T20I against the opposition since 2013. Even though they had a wonderful opportunity in the series opener, Ireland failed to get through.
Mohammad Nabi and Najibullah Zadran were brilliant in that match and pulled off one of the most memorable wins for the team. The visitors have got a massive challenge in the form of the Afghan spin troika. If they are to get anywhere close to a win, they will need to deal well against the spinners. The Afghans will yet again go in as the favourites to win the match.
Pitch and Conditions
The track in the first game of the series was a sporting one. It had something on offer for everyone. However, it was the spinners who found a great deal of success. If could again end up offering a lot for the spinners. The weather forecast for the match day is pleasant and the temperatures will go down as the evening progresses.
The Afghans will not want to potter around with the winning combination. Thus, they will look to field the same team from the last game. Skipper Asghar Afghan will continue to open the innings along with the dangerous Hazratullah Zazai. Mohammad Nabi will hold the key in the middle-order and with the ball. The spin troika will also have a great role to play.
Predicted XI: Hazratullah Zazai, Asghar Afghan (C), Samiullah Shenwari, Karim Janat, Mohammad Nabi, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Najibullah Zadran, Shafiqullah Shafiq (wk), Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fareed Malik
Ireland fielded their best possible eleven in the series opener. Therefore, they haven’t got many other options to look at. Paul Stirling and Kevin O’Brien, the experienced campaigners in the side, will have to shoulder more responsibility with the bat. The bowling attack didn’t seem to be on the money, especially when they were subjected to pressure. They will look forward to addressing this issue and yield better results in the upcoming game.
Predicted XI: Paul Stirling (C), Kevin O’Brien, Andrew Balbirnie, Stuart Thompson, Simi Singh, George Dockrell, Shane Getkate, Stuart Poynter (wk), Joshua Little, Boyd Rankin, Peter Chase.
