Afghanistan wicketkeeper Afsar Zazai and West Indies off-spinner Ashley Nurse were found guilty of breaching ICC Code of Conduct in the 1st ODI between the West Indies and Afghanistan at Gros Islet, St. Lucia on Friday. As a result, Afsar Zazai was slapped with a fine of 15% of his match fees while Ashley Nurse has been reprimanded by the ICC, in two separate incidents.

Afghanistan joined the club for creating upsets by defeating West Indies parallel to the ongoing Champions Trophy. India, South Africa and New Zealand lately suffered due to the ongoing trend as they faced defeat against an underdog team.

It was a one-man show since the West Indians took guard. The Afghan superstar from the Indian Premier League went on to take as many as seven wickets to shock the Caribbean side coming in as the fourth change bowlers. Since Rashid Khan was introduced into the attack, West Indians fell like a pack of cards and could only amass 149 runs in reply. Rashid Khan was awarded the man of the match award for his match-winning efforts of 7-18.

Both players admitted their offence

The IPL star from Afghanistan, Rashid Khan stole the show with his seven-wicket haul. West Indies had no answer to the spell of Sunrisers’ spinner. But in between the spell, in the 29th over bowled by Zazai, the bowler apparently made a gesture which acted under Article 2.1.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match”. Later on, Ashley Nurse me another gesture which was treated under the same bracket.

Both the players admitted to their offence and following the level one offences, one demerit point each has been added to both players’ disciplinary records. Jeff Crowe of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees sanctioned the proposal accordingly.
