Veteran Indian cricketer Ajinkya Rahane recently made a visit to the iconic residence of South African leader Nelson Mandela. The history of South African struggle against the apartheid regime and India’s freedom struggle have a great connection. In fact, the bilateral cricket connections between India and South Africa are also based on the very same lines.

The series is known as the ‘Freedom series’. Nelson Mandela served the cause of humanity and hence, continues to inspire many. Ajinkya Rahane is no exception. He was accompanied by his wife when he visited Mandela’s home in Soweto, South Africa. Rahane was quick to post a picture with his wife on his official social media handle.

Along with the picture, he had a caption too. In the caption, he remarked that he is carrying back a piece of history for the rest of his life. He looked very inspired by the journey of Nelson Mandela. “Visited the Great Nelson Mandela’s home in Soweto. Will carry a piece of history for the rest of my life. What an inspirational journey,” Ajinkya Rahane wrote along with the picture.

Here is what Ajinkya Rahane had posted:

Rahane could pretty well take the inspiration and strive harder to reclaim his spot in the Indian team. Albeit renowned as one of the better Indian cricketers in the overseas conditions, Ajinkya was not a part of the starting eleven of the Indian team in the first two Tests. However, recent remarks made by Virat Kohli suggest that Rahane could possibly be a part of the Indian team for the final Test.

It will be interesting if he gets his fair due of chance. Rahane was dropped from the playing eleven citing his poor run of home in the home series against Sri Lanka. He had scored an aggregate of 17 runs in the five Test innings in that series. At the same time, a certain Rohit Sharma had shown tremendous form in all three formats of the game. Hence, the management picked Rohit ahead of Rahane for the first two Tests.
