Ajinkya Rahane hasn’t had the most auspicious of times in his cricketing career. He recently ended his stint with the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 2018 Indian Premier League (IPL). During the tournament, he wasn’t at his very best and strained both as a leader and as a batsman. He played 15 matches in the event and could only manage 370 runs at an average of 28.46.

Moreover, his strike rate of 118.21 also wasn’t on the higher side and that turned out to be detrimental to his franchise. His top score of 65 not-out came versus the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. However, he couldn’t guide his team through to victory and attracted a lot of criticism for his lacklustre performance.

He shuffled himself in the batting order, but the tactic didn’t pay many dividends as he strained to hit his straps. Nevertheless, he took the Royals to the playoffs with a resounding win over the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). To their dismay, they lost versus the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and crashed out of the tournament in the Eliminator at the Eden Gardens.

Indian spot eludes Rahane

Rahane also didn’t find a place in India’s ODI and T20I squad for their tour of England next month. The Maharashtra-born batsman turned 30 today and wishes from every nook and corner of the country has poured in for the talented player. Sachin Tendulkar, the former Indian cricketer, also took time out of his busy schedule and wished Rahane on the grand occasion with a message on Twitter. He wrote

“Wishing a very happy birthday to one of the most hardworking, disciplined and sincere cricketers I have come across. May you have a wonderful year ahead. My best wishes to you always, @ajinkyarahane88.”

Here is Sachin’s wish

Rahane was brisk to spot the words of the Master Blaster and thanked him for the warm regards.  He wrote

“Thank you Sachin paji for making my day. Your wishes means a lot to me. You have been an inspiration and have played a key role in shaping my cricketing values.”

Here is Rahane’s reply
