Andrew Symonds and Brian Lara to feature in Gujarat Premier League 2018

The number of T20 leagues in the world seem to be increasing every day. While every country is getting a league of its own, every state in that country is doing the same. After the huge success of Tamil Nadu Premier League and Karnataka Premier League, the latest addition to the T20 leagues is the Gujarat Premier League. GPL next set to be the flagship tournament of the Gujarat Cricket Association.

The GPL will be played from May 28-June 10. Surat, Ahmedabad and Rajkot are the three venues that will be hosting the tournament. The tournament will consist of six teams. A grand opening ceremony is set to take place before the start of the tournament which will see top Bollywood stars taking the Center stage.

A total of six former Indian players, 18 international and domestic stars will be in action over a period of 12 days. Each team will consist of one former Indian cricketer, three former International players, three new-cap players and domestic stars. A total of 18 games will be played in the tournament.

The event will feature prominent cricketers like Mohammad Kaif, Owais Shah, Herschelle Gibbs, Makhaya Ntini, Muttiah Muralidaran, Brian Lara, Andrew Symonds, Alistair Campbell, Ricardo Powell, Tino Best, Mathew Hoggard, Charles Coventry, Farveez Maharoof, Chamara Silva, Ajantha Mendis, Paul Adams, Justin Kemp and Ramesh Powar. The prize money is 51 lakhs for the winners and 21 lakhs for the runners-up. Each participating team is set to get 2 lakhs in addition to prize money.

This tournament is a great platform for the youngsters who want to get recognised and be a part of bigger tournaments. Domestic players who feature in the IPL know the importance of such tournaments. A couple of good performances can provide a huge boost to the youngsters who can make positive progress in their careers.
